Dr. Sarah Brewster is the Chief Director of Services and Operations at Círculo de la Hispanidad.  As such, she oversees programming for children, adults and families and has also supervised the  development of Círculo Center, the organization’s 35,000 square foot LEED, (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), or “green” facility, in Hempstead.  Círculo is the first nonprofit community based organization in New York State to have been awarded gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Dr. Brewster is also the Co-Founder and Vice President of the Board of Evergreen Charter School, an elementary school serving 300 children in grades K-5 that focuses on environmental education among other areas. Dr. Brewster holds her Bachelor’s degree in Human Service Studies – Social Work from Cornell, Master’s Degrees from Columbia University in Social Work and Philosophy as well as a Doctorate in Educational Policy.  She also holds her Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University.   Dr. Brewster has combined her social work, education, and law degrees to work for social justice, education and environmental causes both on Long Island and throughout the world.  She has learned from living and working with many cultures including the Lakota people on Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota; the Mexican community of Santa Rosa, Guadalajara, Mexico; Mother Teresa and the Sisters of Charity in Kali Ghat, home for the dying in Calcutta, India; Cite Soleil, an underserved community in Port au Prince, Haiti; Burgos, Spain and the Hispanic immigrant community on Long Island.
