Youth Development

Círculo de la Hispanidad offers a range of educational, recreational and cultural programs for children and youth to support their development and enrichment. Programs are operated out of locations in Long Beach and Hempstead.

REGISTRATIONS FOR YOUTH PROGRAMS

We want your child to enjoy our programs. It is important that your child participates in these educational, cultural and recreational programs. ALL PROGRAMS ARE FREE. Parents are required to register their children at our office.

After-School Care

Círculo offers after school care for elementary school age children out of locations in Long Beach and Hempstead.  These programs are licensed to operate as School Age Child Care (SACC) programs and are licensed by the Office of Children and Family Services.

Services are offered out of Long Beach at East Elementary School, located at 456 Neptune Boulevard in Long Beach and at Círculo Center in Hempstead located at 605 Peninsula Boulevard.

Partners After-Care Program – Long Beach

Círculo’s Long Beach Program provides education and enrichment activities for children from kindergarten through thirteen years of age at East School, located at 456 Neptune Boulevard in Long Beach. The program follows the Long Beach School District Calendar.  Activities include homework assistance, recreation, and other activities including dance, yoga, science club, arts and crafts, cooking and other activities to help youth develop skills, make friends and have fun.

Social work interns including graduate and undergraduates from local universities also provide support to the program under supervision from a licensed social worker.

Partners After-Care Program – Hempstead

Círculo’s Hempstead Partners After-Care program provides education and enrichment activities for children from kindergarten through thirteen years of age at Círculo Center, located at 605 Peninsula Boulevard, in Hempstead, New York.  Activities include homework assistance, recreation, and other activities including soccer, science club, cooking, arts and crafts, cooking and other activities to help youth develop skills, make friends and have fun.

Homework Assistance 

Circulo offers three programs to help with homework assistance including its after-care programs that operate five days a week throughout the school year in Long Beach and Hempstead as well as its three day a week Homework Assistance program that operates for ten weeks in the fall and spring.

Refer to After-Care programs for information on Círculo’s full academic year programs.

Círculo’s homework assistance program provides help for bilingual and/or ESL elementary school age students from the Long Beach School District.  This is part of its Youth Development/Delinquency Prevention Program.  The program operates for approximately ten weeks in the fall and ten weeks in the spring, three days a week.   Bilingual Spanish/English speaking staff provide assistance with homework. Transportation is provided directly to the program site.

Modern Dance

This program provides dance instruction on Friday afternoons for children ages 10-17.  This is part of its Youth Development/Delinquency Prevention Program.  Participants learn salsa, merengue, cumbia and other forms of Spanish dance.

Participants in this program perform at Círculo’s Holiday Show in December and at its Mother’s Day show in May.

Sábado Cultural

Sábado Cultural is part of Círculo’s Youth Development/Delinquency Prevention Program supported through the Nassau County Youth Board.  This program is for participants who have knowledge of the Spanish language and are interested in learning more Spanish and about Hispanic culture.

Sábado Cultural is a three hour Saturday program that operates during the fall and spring semesters.  Children receive instruction in dance, the Spanish language and participate in arts and crafts activities designed to help children foster an understanding of Hispanic heritage and different Spanish speaking cultures.   Classes are in Spanish and are for elementary school age children.

Participants in this program perform at Círculo’s Holiday Show in December and at its Mother’s Day show in May.

Spanish Guitar

Círculo offers Spanish guitar as part of its Youth Development/Delinquency Prevention Program (YDDP), a program designed to help underserved individuals access support to help them improve their lives.  Guitars are provided for class use however participants need to purchase or rent their own in order to practice independently at home.

Participants in this program perform at Círculo’s Holiday Show in December and at its Mother’s Day show in May.

Time: 4:30-5:30 pm / 5:30-6:30 pm.

Sports Fridays

Círculo provides opportunities for middle and high school youth to enjoy recreational activities under staff supervision.  This program meets at Círculo’s Long Beach office and provides transportation to the Lido School gym.  Youth are broken up into teams for recreational play.

Summer Camp

Círculo offers summer camp for elementary school age children out of two office locations, Long Beach and Hempstead.  The camp experience provide opportunities for children who have completed kindergarten up to youth who have completed eight grade to participate in enrichment activities.

 

Long Beach Camp

The Long Beach summer day camp provides a seven week day camp experience for children and youth who have completed kindergarten up through eighth grade.  The camp is authorized and licensed to operate through the Nassau County Department of Health. It is inspected twice a year.  Lunch is provided free for those that are eligible through the Nassau County Department of Social Services. Staff are certified in CPR- AED and first aid and provide a range of recreational, educational and enrichment activities designed to help children have fun, build lasting friendships as well as enhance their self-esteem, socializations skills, and leadership skills.  This is a traveling camp that uses local parks, pools, and venues for activities.  In the event of rain, indoor activities are planned including movies, skating, bowling and other activities.

Three days a week children go to parks and pools and participate in recreational and enrichment activities.  Two days a week trips are taken to local venues.  Past trips have included Adventure Land, Bayville Adventure Park, the Bronx Zoo, Boomers Amusement, Cradle of Aviation, Cold Spring Fish Hatchery, Coney Island, Dave and Buster’s, Long Island Children’s Museum, Deno’s Wonder Wheel, Fun Station USA, Fun Zone, Long Island Game Farm, Michael’s Amusements, NY Aquarium, NY Hall of Science, Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park, Splish Splash, Tackapausha Museum and Nature Preserve, Tae Kwon Do Institute, United Skates of America, and the Vanderbilt Planetarium.

For the 2015 year:

Long Beach Summer Camp begins Monday, June 29th, 2015, and ends Friday, August 14th. Camp will be closed on July 3rd. The Camp day begins at 9:00 a.m., where we meet at City Hall, in Long Beach, and ends at 3:00 p.m.  After care is also provided for those that are interested.

Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is part of Círculo’s Youth Development/Delinquency Prevention Program.  This program operates on Saturdays in collaboration with RK Gould Tae Kwon-Do in Long Beach. Children receive instruction in technique. The classes teach discipline, concentration, and personal self-defense. First-time students are required to purchase a uniform directly from the Tae Kwon Do Academy. Participants interested in registering for this program need to be a participant of Círculo’s Sábado Cultural program.

Participants perform at Círculo’s Holiday Show in December and at its Mother’s Day show in May.

Youth Committee

Círculo provides opportunities for youth to develop their leadership, socialization, and community services skills through a Youth Committee that meets weekly.  Participants have opportunities to share with one another and build friendships as well as learn educational information to prepare them for success in school, life and good health.  Youth also have the opportunity to participant in career and work development activities including community service.
